Artboards

An artboard is a named, fixed-size frame on the canvas. Use artboards to lay out several deliverables in one document — a set of slides, social-media images in different formats, or printable A4 pages — and export each one on its own.

Artboards don't own or clip items: an artboard exports whatever lies within its frame, so you can move shapes between artboards freely.

Creating an Artboard

Draw one — choose the Artboard tool in the toolbar and drag out a frame on the canvas.

Add a preset — open the Inspector's Document tab, go to the Layers section, and click + in the Artboards header. Choose a preset:

Managing Artboards

All artboards are listed at the top of the Layers section (Inspector → Document tab). Each row offers:

  • Size — pick another preset or type an exact width and height, then click Apply
  • Background — set the artboard's own background (see below)
  • Remove — delete the artboard (the items inside it stay on the canvas)

Right-click an artboard row for Locate on Canvas, Rename..., and Delete.

Artboard Backgrounds

Each artboard can have its own background, independent of the canvas:

  • Background color — a solid colour
  • Gradient — a vertical gradient between a top and a bottom colour
  • Background image — a texture preset or a custom image (Custom…), with Remove to clear it

An artboard without a background exports with a transparent background.

Exporting Artboards

  • File → Export Artboard... — pick an artboard from the submenu and save it as PNG or SVG (SVG export is a PRO feature)
  • File → Export All Artboards... — choose a folder; every artboard is saved as a separate PNG named after the artboard

Both commands offer a Resolution choice of 1×, 2× (default), or 3×. Your last choice is remembered.

Tips

  • Name artboards after their purpose ("Slide 1 – Title", "Instagram Post") — the names become the exported file names
  • Place artboards side by side and reuse shapes across them with copy and paste or Repeat…
  • To print or produce a PDF, use Print instead — artboard export creates images
