What's New in Diagrammix 3

Diagrammix 3.8

This release focuses on building richer infographics faster — with live layouts, new ways to construct shapes, reusable components, and artboards for exporting finished pieces.

Live Force-Directed and Organic Layouts

Two physics-based algorithms join auto-layout, with live animation: turn on Live, drag a node, and the rest of the diagram re-flows around it. Turn Live off to keep the result.

→ Auto-Layout guide

Combine Shapes with Boolean Operations

Build custom outlines from simple parts with Edit → Combine: Union, Subtract, Intersect, and Exclude.

→ Combine Shapes guide

Reusable Elements with Text Slots

Save any composition as a reusable element, then drag copies from the palette. Every text becomes a fill-in slot with a placeholder.

→ Reusable Elements guide

Artboards

Mark fixed-size frames for slides, social posts, or A4 pages, give each its own background, and export them individually or all at once as PNG or SVG at 1×–3×.

→ Artboards guide

Step and Repeat

Edit → Repeat… (Shift+Cmd+D) makes evenly spaced copies in a line or around a circle.

→ Repeat guide

Smoother Connectors and Multiple Labels

Connectors can be Smooth (curved) or have rounded corners, and each connector can carry several labels — at the start, middle, end, or along the path.

→ Connectors guide

Vector Path and Polygon Editing

Edit the nodes of any path or polygon: insert and delete nodes and switch between corner, smooth, and symmetric points.

→ Vector Path Editing guide

Inner Shadows, Canvas Gradients, and Artwork Tinting

Mermaid Gantt and Pie Charts

Insert Mermaid gantt and pie diagrams — rendered as a timeline with sections and task bars, and as a pie chart with a legend.

→ Mermaid Support guide

Page Layout Preview

Turn on View → Show Page Layout to see where print pages fall directly on the canvas.

→ Print guide

Layers Panel with Items

The Layers section of the Inspector now lists every item in each layer, with per-item visibility and locking, renaming, and drag-to-reorder.

→ Layers guide

Rename Document Tabs

Double-click a tab (or right-click → Rename) to give each page of a document a meaningful name.

→ Document Tabs guide

More for AI Assistants

Connected AI assistants gained new MCP tools — including a radial diagram generator (segmented rings, circles, and petals) and per-artboard Visio export.

→ AI Integration guide

And More

Significant performance improvements, plus many bug fixes and refinements throughout the app.

Diagrammix 3.7

Mind Maps

A dedicated mind-mapping mode for capturing and organizing ideas radially.

  • Start a map with the Mindmap tool, then grow it with the keyboard: Tab for a child, Return for a sibling, Shift+Tab for a parent
  • Choose from eight structures — Mind Map, Logical, Org Chart, Tree, Catalog, Fishbone, Timeline, and Vertical Timeline
  • Built-in themes (Default, Vibrant, Muted, Dark), per-node icons, shapes, group frames, and summaries
  • Import from and export to Markdown, OPML, and XMind

→ Mind Maps guide

Sticky Notes with Images

Drop quick, resizable notes onto the canvas — now with attached images.

  • Create notes with the Sticky Note tool
  • Attach one or more images to a note from its action toolbar and manage them in an image gallery
  • Perfect for moodboards, annotations, references, and brainstorming

→ Sticky Notes guide

Custom Styles

Save your own reusable diagram styles alongside the built-in canvas themes.

  • Duplicate a built-in style (Sketch, Comic, Blueprint) or start from scratch, then fine-tune every parameter
  • Custom styles appear in the Autostyle menu and apply to your whole document in one click
  • Recreate a look from a reference image automatically over MCP

→ Custom Styles guide

Custom Templates

Build your own notation packs of shapes and arrowheads.

  • Author custom SVG shapes and custom connector arrowheads
  • Manage packs from View → Manage Custom Templates…; your packs appear under Custom in the template picker
  • Import, export, and share packs with your team

→ Custom Templates guide

A Redesigned Mermaid Workflow

Mermaid import is now a preview-first, round-trippable experience.

  • Preview and validate Mermaid before it lands on the canvas — see node and connector counts, with errors flagged inline
  • Keep editing in Mermaid — every imported diagram keeps its source, so you can reopen the </> editor and re-render at any time

→ Mermaid Support guide

Control Diagrammix from AI Assistants (MCP)

Diagrammix ships with a built-in MCP server so AI assistants like Claude and Codex can read and build your diagrams.

  • Describe what you need in plain language — the AI places symbols, connectors, and layouts for you
  • Replicate styles and shapes from an image — hand the AI a reference picture and it produces a matching custom template and style
  • Works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, and any MCP-compatible client

→ AI Integration guide

Icon Sets in the Clipart Manager

The Clipart manager now includes a browsable library of icon sets, organized by category, alongside your own saved clipart.

→ Clipart Library guide

More Layout Options

Auto-layout gained new algorithms beyond the classic hierarchical layout — including layered, tree, radial, circular, force-directed, organic, and grid arrangements.

→ Auto-Layout guide

Move Sticky Spots with a Dedicated Tool

A new Move Sticky Spot tool lets you reposition attachment ports precisely, snapping connector endpoints to a shape's exact contour.

→ Sticky Spots guide

Improved Copy Style Tool

The Copy Style (format painter) tool is smarter: it copies styling across element types, intelligently maps properties between shapes, connectors, vector paths, and images, and re-stamps custom style variants so complex looks carry over faithfully.

→ Copy & Apply Styles guide
