PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
- Lossless compression
- Supports transparency
- Best for diagrams with text and sharp edges
- Widely compatible

- Lossy compression (smaller file size)
- No transparency support
- Better for photographic content
- Not ideal for text-heavy diagrams
PDF (Portable Document Format)
- Vector format (scales without quality loss)
- Ideal for printing
- Preserves text as searchable/selectable
- Supports multiple pages
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)
- Vector format
- Editable in vector editors (Illustrator, Figma, etc.)
- Perfect for web use
- Scales infinitely without quality loss
VSDX (Microsoft Visio)

|---|---|---|
| 25% | 0.25x | Thumbnails |
| 50% | 0.5x | Quick previews |
| 75% | 0.75x | Smaller file size |
| 100% | 1x (72 DPI) | Standard screen display |
| 150% | 1.5x | Retina-ready |
| 200% | 2x (144 DPI) | High-DPI displays, presentations |
| 300% | 3x (216 DPI) | High-quality printing |
| 400% | 4x (288 DPI) | Large format printing |

Background Options
- Transparent: No background (PNG and SVG only)
- White: Standard white background
- Canvas color: Use the current canvas background color
Transparent backgrounds are useful for:

- Website graphics
- Presentation slides with custom backgrounds
Export Selection vs. Entire Canvas
- Export All: Exports the entire canvas with all visible content
- Export Selection: Exports only the currently selected elements
To export a selection:
- Select the elements you want to export
- Go to File → Export Selection...
- Configure options and export

Best Practices
For Web
- Use PNG for diagrams with text and sharp edges
- Use SVG for interactive or scalable graphics
- Export at 200% for retina displays
- Use transparent background when overlaying
For Documents
- Use PDF for Word, Pages, or printing
- Use PNG at 200-300% for Google Docs
- Ensure sufficient margin around content
For Presentations
- Use PNG at 200% for clear display on projectors
- Use transparent background for flexible placement
- Export individual slides if needed
For Printing
- Use PDF for best quality
- Use 300% or 400% scale for raster formats
- Include margins for bleed
Batch Export
To export multiple diagrams or pages:
- Open each document
- Use File → Export...
- Consider scripting for large batches
Tips
- Preview before exporting: Check that all elements are visible
- Consider file size: Higher scale = larger files
- Test transparency: Verify transparent areas display correctly
- Keep originals: Always save the .diagrammix file alongside exports
- Name consistently: Use descriptive file names for organization
