What's New in Diagrammix 3

This release brings several major additions — a full mind-mapping mode, sticky notes that can hold images, reusable custom styles and templates, a redesigned Mermaid import workflow, and the ability to drive the whole app from AI assistants. Here's everything that's new, with links to the detailed guides.

Mind Maps

A dedicated mind-mapping mode for capturing and organizing ideas radially.

  • Start a map with the Mindmap tool, then grow it with the keyboard: Tab for a child, Return for a sibling, Shift+Tab for a parent
  • Choose from eight structures — Mind Map, Logical, Org Chart, Tree, Catalog, Fishbone, Timeline, and Vertical Timeline
  • Built-in themes (Default, Vibrant, Muted, Dark), per-node icons, shapes, group frames, and summaries
  • Import from and export to Markdown, OPML, and XMind

Sticky Notes with Images

Drop quick, resizable notes onto the canvas — now with attached images.

  • Create notes with the Sticky Note tool
  • Attach one or more images to a note from its action toolbar and manage them in an image gallery
  • Perfect for moodboards, annotations, references, and brainstorming

Custom Styles

Save your own reusable diagram styles alongside the built-in canvas themes.

  • Duplicate a built-in style (Sketch, Comic, Blueprint) or start from scratch, then fine-tune every parameter
  • Custom styles appear in the Autostyle menu and apply to your whole document in one click
  • Recreate a look from a reference image automatically over MCP

Custom Templates

Build your own notation packs of shapes and arrowheads.

  • Author custom SVG shapes and custom connector arrowheads
  • Manage packs from View → Manage Custom Templates…; your packs appear under Custom in the template picker
  • Import, export, and share packs with your team

A Redesigned Mermaid Workflow

Mermaid import is now a preview-first, round-trippable experience.

  • Preview and validate Mermaid before it lands on the canvas — see the diagram type and node/edge counts, with errors flagged inline
  • Keep editing in Mermaid — every imported diagram keeps its source, so you can reopen the </> editor and re-render at any time

Control Diagrammix from AI Assistants (MCP)

Diagrammix ships with a built-in MCP server so AI assistants like Claude and Codex can read and build your diagrams.

  • Describe what you need in plain language — the AI places symbols, connectors, and layouts for you
  • Replicate styles and shapes from an image — hand the AI a reference picture and it produces a matching custom template and style
  • Works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, and any MCP-compatible client

Icon Sets in the Clipart Manager

The Clipart manager now includes a browsable library of icon sets, organized by category, alongside your own saved clipart.

More Layout Options

Auto-layout gained new algorithms beyond the classic hierarchical layout — including tree, radial, circular, force-directed, organic, orthogonal, and grid arrangements.

Move Sticky Spots with a Dedicated Tool

A new Move Sticky Spot tool lets you reposition attachment ports precisely, snapping connector endpoints to a shape's exact contour.

Improved Copy Style Tool

The Copy Style (format painter) tool is smarter: it copies styling across element types, intelligently maps properties between shapes, connectors, vector paths, and images, and re-stamps custom style variants so complex looks carry over faithfully.
