Text Editing

You can add text to shapes and connectors, or place independent text boxes anywhere on the canvas.

Adding Text

  • To a shape or connector — select it and press T, or double-click it and click Edit Text in the floating action toolbar
  • As a standalone text box — choose the Text tool (T with nothing selected) and click or drag on the canvas. See Text Tool
  • Extra connector labels — right-click a connector and choose Add Label. See Connectors

The Text Editor Callout

While you edit text, a floating callout appears with:

  • Text Presets — apply a saved text style, or create one with New Preset from Selection…
  • Font picker
  • B / I / U — bold, italic, underline (in rich-text mode)
  • Font size
  • Alignment — Left, Center, Right, Justify
  • Colour — document palette swatches and a colour picker
  • Aa / MD — switch between Rich Text and Markdown input

The callout's footer has Top, bottom padding and Left, right padding sliders, Text angle, Autosize, and Fixed width, plus Save as Defaults, Apply Defaults, and Reset Defaults.

Formatting in rich-text mode applies to the whole text block. To mix styles within one text (headings, bold words, lists), switch to Markdown mode.

Markdown Text

In MD mode the callout offers Markdown formatting instead of B/I/U: heading levels, bold, italic, bullet and numbered lists, quotes, code blocks, and inline code. The text is rendered as formatted Markdown on the canvas.

Choose the default input format for new text in Diagrammix → Settings… → General → Default Text Format.

The Inspector's Text Tab

Select an item and open the Inspector's Text tab for:

Text Boxes vs Shape Labels

  • Standalone text boxes are independent objects created with the Text tool
  • Shape labels belong to a shape and move with it
  • Connector labels stay attached to the connector and can be dragged along it
