Text Editing

You can add text to any diagram, either as independent labels or attached to shapes.

Adding Text

Two ways to add text:

  1. Double-click anywhere on the canvas or on a shape.
  2. Select the Text Tool (T icon) and click.

Formatting Text

When editing text, use the Text Editor Callout that appears above the text or use the Inspector Panel.

Text Editor Callout

The floating HUD toolbar provides quick access to:

  • Font Size: Increase/Decrease or select from common sizes.
  • Style Toggles: Bold (B), Italic (I), and Underline (U).
  • Color Picker: Choose the text color from a grid of brand-consistent colors.
  • Alignment: Set horizontal alignment (Left, Center, Right).

Rich Text Formatting

Text Style Options

The Inspector provides detailed text formatting:

  • Font Family: Choose from system fonts
  • Font Size: Points or preset sizes
  • Font Weight: Regular, Bold, Light, etc.
  • Font Style: Italic, Oblique
  • Text Decoration: Underline, Strikethrough
  • Character Spacing: Letter spacing adjustment
  • Line Height: Space between lines

Applying Multiple Styles

You can apply different styles within the same text block:

  1. Select specific text with your cursor
  2. Apply formatting to the selection
  3. Different parts can have different fonts, sizes, and colors

Text Boxes vs Shape Labels

Standalone Text Boxes

Created with the Text Tool:

  • Independent objects on the canvas
  • Can be positioned anywhere
  • Have their own styling options
  • Move independently of other objects

Shape Labels

Text attached to shapes:

  • Double-click a shape to edit its label
  • Label moves with the shape
  • Centered by default
  • Limited to the shape's bounds

Converting Between Types

  • Detach label: Cut text from shape, paste as standalone
  • Attach to shape: Shapes cannot import standalone text directly

Text Wrapping

Auto-Wrap

Text automatically wraps within its container:

  • Text boxes wrap at their width boundary
  • Shape labels wrap within the shape

Adjusting Wrap Width

For text boxes:

  1. Select the text box
  2. Drag the side handles to change width
  3. Text reflows automatically

No Wrap

To keep text on a single line:

  1. Make the text box wide enough
  2. Or use line breaks (Return) for manual control

Text Alignment

Horizontal Alignment

  • Left: Text aligns to the left edge
  • Center: Text centers in the container
  • Right: Text aligns to the right edge
  • Justify: Text spreads to fill the width

Vertical Alignment (in shapes)

  • Top: Text aligns to the top of the shape
  • Middle: Text centers vertically
  • Bottom: Text aligns to the bottom
